I took a break from on the collaborative commission that Sharon and I have been working on for the past three weeks and put this canvas on my easel.  When I needed a break from the long hours of that job, I worked on this painting.  I wanted to paint something loose and colorful, fun and happy.  I used two different palette knives on this painting...so there is plenty of paint built up on the canvas.  Blending colors, I was mindful that it doesn't take much mixing to create MUD.  I also got brave and put my least favorite color in....green.  I usually back away from greens of any shade, but cad green was a good choice, especially when it bounces off the cad reds and oranges.  Thanks for looking at this painting.  Contact me if you have any questions about this painting....kay@kwyne.com.

Abstract Aspen Painting

I was revisiting some of my aspen paintings to see how my paintings have changed over the past two years.  This is one of my first palette knife paintings of abstract aspens that I took on.  My daughter pointed out to me that I blended my oils on this painting and that she like the way the colors moved around on the canvas.    I went to see this painting and varnished it (looks so much better with the colors bright and vivid.) last week.  I am currently working on a large canvas (48" x 72") and I am working on blending my oils together.  My color palette is of bold colors.  I hope to post my progress on that painting tomorrow.  Need to take the camera!  Thanks for viewing, Kay.

This contemporary abstract painting is fresh off my easel. I started with river, trees and then added some angles and lines....keeping the colors fresh. I used a two inch wide flat brush. I enjoyed this painting so much...just letting the colors work off each other. It was hard not to use my palette knife, but the flat brush allowed me to make sharp edges and crisp lines. This is a donation for Alley's House annual fundraiser. It is a contemporary abstract on a 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas. I used thick, juicy oils and applied them with wide brushes and palette knives.
