"Fire and Gold" oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Fire and Gold" ©2011 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 36" x 48"

I used to love it as a kid, growing up in the midwest, when my family would go hiking in the woods – especially in fall. The crisp feel in the air, the crunching of leaves underfoot and the beautiful autumn colors, along with spending time with my mom and dad were special times. In Fire and Gold I wanted to recreate those warm memories, choosing reds and yellows of autumn to heighten those happy feelings and using energetic strokes with my paint reminiscent of a carefree, simpler time. Building up thin transparent layers of oil paint also add to a certain glow and magic in the final piece.

"Ivory Refrain" textured aspen oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Ivory Refrain” ©2011 Niki Gulley
24” x 30” textured oil on canvas

Scrolling bark peels back like white washed parchment revealing secrets in the deeply textured wood below. A painting of grace and beauty, it’s verticality offset by embracing branches wound round as a sheltering arm. Each stroke is crisp, vivid, defined by thick textured oil, rich colors strike a reververberating chord – purple and the compliment of gold create a visual vibration that resonates in an optical song.

Horizon Series: Abstract Aspens #1111 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series: Abstract Aspens #1111
This contemporary palette knife painting has layers and layers of color and texture. I started with a base coat of warm gray on sides and front of canvas. After putting my horizon line in, I used oil sticks and brush to apply color. Using the palette knife, I started putting trees in from the horizon line. I wanted more violets, blues and grays to dominate on the canvas. The crimson, burnt orange and turquoise bounce off the cool colors, giving the piece some contrast. The canvas is 36" x 48", and is ready to hang...no fame needed on the gallery wrap canvas. Thanks for viewing this blog and my art.....Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com

KM2696 Golden Glow by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Another small painting done for the series of mini holiday shows I am showing in. This one was done too late to ship to my other galleries so I am offering it 1/2 off my gallery price as I would love to have this gem find a home. No Boundaries by Kay Wyne

No Boundaries
20" x 60" Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap
I love the linen showing through on this contemporary aspen painting. When I started painting, I wanted the viewer to be able to see the linen. The natural linen is warm and rich in color. I used a wide, flat brush and the palette knife to apply the oils. The 80" high canvas would look great on a vertical space with a high ceiling...it is ready to ship to the gallery in Santa Fe. Thanks for viewing this blog...Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

"Life's Journey" oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Life’s Journey” ©2011 Niki Gulley
46” x 44” oil on canvas

Follow the deep wood’s path and wander under a canopy of sheltering leaves, light shifts through each branch and twig. Long, late rays of sunlight pierce the dreaming autumn forest, as you enter shadows dapple your journey. You are walking down a loamy path, filled with color-drenched leaves that invite you into the purple shadows where you may seek your dreams. This oil painting of a tranquil wood’s trail inspires your journey and your dreams with lush colors and rich images of beauty ahead.

American Fine Art Gallery showing Niki Gulley

"Colorful Transformation" ©2011 by Niki Gulley
textured oil painting • 36" x 48"

Now showing at American Fine Art Gallery in Dallas, in Colorful Transformation, I wanted to focus on brilliant color and simple shapes to see if I could communicate the excitement I feel when surrounded by nature. Using energetic diagonal strokes and thick, textured paint, I hope you get a sense of the motion in the leaves and the power of nature to invigorate your spirit. I just love how this piece captured that essence!

Original abstract aspen tree painting on 6x6x7/8 gallery wrapped canvas. The sides are painted, ready to hang. This little painting is another for the Holiday Miniature Madness show. It is "poured" acrylic as is the majority of my work..there are several paintings in various sizes in the "Winter Aspens" series. I just sold another large Aspen painting in this palette.....minus the snow;it has been one of my more popular palettes in Aspens over the past two years. KM2689 Then and Now by Kit Hevron Mahoney

This scene was found on Rabbit Ears Pass in mid summer. It was an abandoned mining town left to the wildflowers which surrounded it with their warm, bright yellow hues. These scenes always leave one wondering about the lives that were lived here, their thoughts, feelings, daily routines and the ruggedness of the individuals who endured life before today's amenities. I love creating works that leave a viewer always engaged with wonder and questions.

Looking For You by Kay Wyne

Looking For You
18" x 36" x 2 1/4"
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting is drying....I used a cooler background color than I normally do on this canvas. The canvas is rather thick, and gives the canvas a chunky, heavy look. I liked the size....more of a small to medium size canvas. I wanted to create some depth, with the viewer looking through the canvas, eye wandering around. The colors on the canvas change from deep violets and purple and greys to roses, oranges and ochers.
Here is a close-up shot of the canvas, as you can see the colors better. A wide, flat brush and palette knife was used to create this painting. Please contact Kay if you are interested in this piece, or any of her other paintings. Thanks, Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

Twilight in the Canyon 24x30...Oil on Canvas Mark Malone

Experimental, transitional period between realism and abstraction.

Aspen Grove 24x36 Oil Mark Malone

A departure for me. I wanted to mix realism (the aspens) with a non-traditional background.

Aspen Tree Painting by Jill Saur

Today, I sold and delivered this newly finished aspen tree painting.  It now hangs in a gorgeous home, over an exquisite fireplace.  The owner couldn't be any nicer and it was so rewarding to see her so happy with my work.

If you're looking for a special painting for a certain place in your home or business, please visit my website.  I paint commissions!

Stand Tall by Kay Wyne

Stand Tall
20" x 60" Oil on Linen
Gallery Wrap - No frame needed.
This contemporary abstract oil painting is drying....it is on oatmeal/natural linen. I loved the linen so much that I did not want to completely paint over all of it, so the natural color of the linen is exposed on all four sides and some of the actual painting. I used a wide brush and palette knife to create this abstract aspen painting. It has a deep, rich color palette, and would look great at the end of a hall or a tall vertical space in a home. Please contact Kay at kay@kwyne.com for more information on this painting. Thanks for looking! Kay

KM2689 Maroon Bells by Kit Hevron Mahoney

I painted this scene from my recent trip to Aspen, Colorado and more specifically the Maroon Bells Wilderness area. It was a perfect day and we timed our arrival at the peak of the changing colors of the Aspen trees. The sun was in and out of the clouds creating a light show of different clumps of aspen showcased in the light as the clouds moved. That is what this scene reflects. This painting is hanging at Brushstrokes in the "Gift of Miniature" show.
It is available framed or unframed.

Untitled Abstract Aspens by Kay Wyne

Untitled Abstract Aspens
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting is completed, but I have not given it a title. Blue is the dominate color with some rich purples and rusts. Contrasting colors of turquoise, coral and green are in the falling leaves. This contemporary oil painting has texture since most of the paint was applied with a palette knife. There are some wide brush strokes on the canvas, but for the most part, I used the knife. I have not decided what to name this piece. Thanks for viewing the artwork posted here. Have a great day....Kay at kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325.

Season of Color by Kay Wyne

Season of Color
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting is at the Omni Hotel Convention Center for the ribbon cutting ceremonies this Friday, November 11th. 11 - 11 - 11. What a great date. It will be on display in the Grand Ball Room. Anyone who has been around me knows that I have worked with McKane Consulting on an art project for the new hotel. It has been a really good experience on many levels. I have been working with many Dallas artists, people on the construction side of the hotel and the good people at McKane Consulting. I have met so many neat artists, and have been able to create LOTS of art. More on the project later. This painting is for sale, and if you are interested, please contact Kay at kay@kwyne.com. Thanks for viewing. Kay

KM2685 Autumn Gold by Kit Hevron Mahoney

I painted this scene from my trip to Aspen here in Colorado at the end of September. It was such a magnificent weekend of the sun filtering through the golden leaves. One just feels rich with the warmth from the sun and the amazing reds, yellows an oranges completely surrounding you. There is just nothing like a perfect fall day in Colorado. This painting is hanging in our "Gift of Miniature" show at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery.
